Guest Post - Wedding Inspiration – Modern Bridgerton

Films and TV are often the inspiration behind wedding themes. So when we decided to do a styled shoot at The Subscription Rooms in Stroud, the hit Netflix series, Bridgerton, was an easy theme choice. Not quite Regencycore, but Regency with a modern twist!

A popular events venue slap bang in the heart of the town, The Sub Rooms, built in 1833, are a great location for a celebrant led wedding. The rooms we used for this shoot were the Ballroom and the upstair bar. Both can be booked together or seperately, and they are both fully wheelchair accessible. All the suppliers involved are local independent businesses who have sustainability as part of their approach to their work. You can see the Festival Inspiration shoot that we did using the George Room here.

Our range Included the Penelope - Dress with heels as worn by Langa and the Outfit worn by Rispa was the Zoya - Jumpsuit The White Rooms in Minchinhampton were our first stop. They lent us this stunning Jenny Packham dress, which fit our model Mia like a dream! Our menswear was supplied by James Lear of Arundel – the velvet jackets will be back in stock in the autumn. Since we were taking Bridgerton as inspiration, rather than recreating the period clothing, we loved how well Josh’s own trainers went with the waistcoat, so that was what he wore!

Our photographer, Camilla Reynolds, always brings her own special brand of magic to a shoot! Hair and makeup was again done by Florence Wear, showing that even fairly short hair can work in an updo – and she managed to put my hair up in less than ten minutes! The tiara and little jewelled hair accessories were made by Gemma Sangwine to match the jewelled detailing on the dress. The gorgeous cake is by Hampton Cakes, and as always had loads of decorative details

The shoot was in early March, so we couldn’t rely on fresh British-grown flowers. We wanted to use a sustainable alternative to imported flowers. Dried local flowers from Cotswold Country Flowers, along with Anthie & Hons, show that British grown flowers are an option all year round. They created this stunning arrangement to sit on top of the fireplace. They also made the bridal bouquet and a fabulous buttonhole that looked great against the blue velvet jacket.

Jilly of Delight Vintage Teaset Hire, with support from Vintage Mary, provided this gorgeous table styling, rich with cut crystal, silver candelabras and amazing white peacock feathers. The feathers were sourced from birds kept as pets and were naturally shed – so there were no ethical concerns.

The balcony makes for a great backdrop too

And once the ceremony is done – more of that in a later post – you can carry on the party in the upstairs bar. The dark green walls, copper bar, and striking lights are a stylish contrast to the classical lines of the Ballroom.

The stairs aren’t too shabby for photos either

The models from our Festival Shoot stayed for the Bridgerton fun. Rizpah and Langa wore clothes by ourselves Madia and Matilda, and David wore clothes from James Lear of Arundel.

Best Christmas Films

Christmas Film Edit

Cuddle up, cuddle bunnies! Put on your dressing gowns, onesies, blankets; gather your mince pies, Bailey's, cats, small children, etc. The cosy Christmas film viewing is, for many families, as essential a part of the big day as dinner is. Here are a few well-acknowledged favourites. Is yours here? Drop us a comment to let us know!

Home Alone
Ballsy little Kevin McAllister sets so many perfect booby traps that I'm always amazed villains Harry and Marv make it out alive. Any else have great memories of crying with laughter during this film? Did you wet yourself?

Elf
Will Ferrell stars as a larger-than-life, Christmas-obsessed elf who spends most of the movie getting into scrapes with cynical New Yorkers. The tights definitely make it for us.

A Charlie Brown Christmas
Vintage Charlie Brown? Can't be beaten! The 1965 special was initially predicted to bomb magnificently, but won an honorary Emmy years later! Who could watch this without falling in love with Snoopy all over again?

The Nightmare Before Christmas
A little darker than the other movies on this list (though still full of fun!), The Nightmare before Christmas is about Jack Skellington's attempts to bring Christmas to his Halloween hometown. Tim Burton heads up the writer's team working on this movie.

The Grinch
A Christmas villain manages to finally redeem himself with the villagers of Whoville in this adaptation of Dr. Seuss's picture book, written in 1957. Great fun, plus a green villain! What's not to like?

Miracle on 34th Street

A heart warming, dreams-can-come-true tale. The premise sounds improbable (who takes Father Christmas to court?!) but essentially this is a story about a young girl's belief in something adults repeatedly tell her is not real. So there! Santa does exist!

What do you like to watch at Christmas? Who do you watch it with?

Valentine's Day Date Ideas

Are you ready and prepped for V-Day? Everyone knows the perfect date does not have to be a pocket-burning experience, and as the date is drawing ever closer, we thought we would take a look at some of the best (and affordable!) date ideas this year for you and your loved one.
ICE SKATING:
Honestly what is more romantic than falling all over your loved one as you try to regain your balance on a potential death trap of ice?! Only downside to this plan is that the closest rink is in Bristol.

CINEMA:
New movie out your partner really wants to see? Why not treat them to the full cinema experience and pay for their ticket and buy them all the snacks and drinks they want!
Top Tip: Try Odeon for £4 cinema tickets all day, every day for all ages!

Why not check out La La Land?

A SPA DAY:
There is quite possibly nothing more relaxing than a spa day – treat you and your partner to a day of relaxation at a local spa which you we took the liberty of finding a list of here.

AN EVENING AT THEIR SERVICE:
Want to treat your loved one to an evening of pampering but cannot quite afford a spa day? No problem – be your own spa! This is an easy date to do from the comfort of home, simply be your partner’s personal serviceman/woman for the day or evening! Anything they want or need is your responsibility. This includes all the cooking, cleaning and drinks-delivery (the wine will not top up itself, you know!).

FOR SOMEONE YOU ARE TRYING TO WIN OVER: KARAOKE
What is more embarrassing than karaoke? Pretty much nothing. However, it does serve well for one thing and that is eliminating awkwardness! If you are trying to bag yourself a relationship with a certain someone this Valentines, a round at the local karaoke is going to show your carefree nature and ability to laugh at yourself better than anything and you might even find you have more fun than fear doing it!

A COOKING CLASS:
Is your partner a total homebody? Want to celebrate V-Day but not from the comfort of your living room? Perhaps an idea that is not too far from home would be to try a cooking class together! Take a look here to find your nearest one in Gloucestershire.

FOR A NEW RELATIONSHIP: A MEAL OUT
Whilst going for drinks again may seem nothing out of the ordinary – and therefore, not V-Day special - cooking may seem a little intimate at this point. Why not settle for a late reservation at a restaurant and that way, you have time to fit in drinks beforehand should you need them for the nerves!
Madia & Matilda loves: FAT TONI’S

The authentic Italian Pizzeria and Bakery are based in both Stroud and Gloucester and have rave reviews. Book and view the website here.
