Kiera Court - In questions

Kiera Court

Meet Kiera Court, Singer Songwriter & self-professed dog lover, as she tells us about her collaboration with Madia & Matilda

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I'm a musician and songwriter based in London. In my spare time I like to wear nice suits, drink coffee and am actually have the cool capacity to cut my own fringe. With scissors. I could probably even cut it with pliers if they were to hand. I also really like dogs, but who doesn't?

Kiera is wearing the  Amelia - Dress

How long have you been Singing  for?

I've been singing for a while - I don't have an exact date, but all I know is that I love it. I just love sounds.

Kiera's Dog Alfred wears Slate Dog lead from our Shop Unique Selection

Is there anything specific that inspired your Madia & Matilda photoshoot?

Mainly my dog. He's my rock and very photogenic - I wouldn't be surprised if he got scouted for Premier Pooch Models (does this exist?) or something. Madia & Matilda feels kind of homely - solid and sustainable like a friend you can always rely on and true to its roots. I didn't want to go too over the top with the shoot and portray the sense of honesty I feel Madia & Matilda conveys in the photos.

Which is your favourite Madia & Matilda piece of our Summer 18 collection?

I love the Henny cotton skirt. It's so light and breezy. I could gallop around London in that, hoping on and off the tube without have to groan at the tight constraint of jeans, or unbuttoning of a trouser. It's very classy and would look great in the day with a crisp shirt, blouse or in the evening with a cami top.

Beauty secrets...

My hair is so big because it is FULL of secrets.

Seriously though, I don't I have any specific routine as such at the moment. All I do is make sure I'm clean and well hydrated (like a plant). I try to drink a lot of water. A decent amount of sleep is essential too. I think the key to looking beautiful though is feeling it - a warm energy transforms a face and radiates around you. Everyone's perception of beauty is different and remembering that will get you far.

I don't wear a lot of make-up, and when I do, it varies from either dark eyes or bold lips. One or the other. Like boobs or bum.

If you can take us to your hometown for a day, where will you take us to?

I was born in Chelmsford, Essex. If I were to take you there, we would most certainly not go out at night unless it were to the Bassment (get it) bar for some blues, jazz and just genuine good music. Hylands House would potentially be on the cards. That's where I walk my dog sometimes, and my dog comes first. We'd have to hit up A canteen in town though as they do gorgeous brunches.

Beauty Spotlight on - Lola's Apothecary

Lola’s Apothecary

Today we are proud to introduce to you another like-minded brand whose products we sell via our website: Lola’s Apothecary! The brand is the creation of lovely Lola, and supplies our customers with incredibly fragrant things designed to nourish and pimp up your bod. “Belief in wellness and a holistic approach to life” lies firmly at the heart of Lola’s sweet self-care utopia (aka Devon). Um, can we move there please?

Indulge yourself or a loved one with a selection of the following...

The Delicate Romance Pocket Collection, with all its gorgeous rosy hues, is a perfect little taster of the delights offered by Lola’s Apothecary. Think Snape: this little package was definitely made to ‘ensnare the senses’! and a perfect unexpected gift for a loved one.

For a bath that leaves you with your skin feeling amazing (like, floating-on-clouds, double-choc-ice-cream amazing), pour a little of Lola’s award-winning “Queen of Roses” Bath Milk into your bath, hop in, and let it do its magic. Emma Watson, a huge advocate of sustainable fashion and beauty, swears by it. She calls it “amazing” and “incredible”, and we’re totally with her on that one.

Sweet Lullaby candle is made of a blend of all-natural plant waxes. Its layers of scent include a heart of lavender and ylang ylang, blended with patchouli, vanilla and sweet orange. With the recent focus on renewable energy and fuels, we’ve been extra careful to invest in non-petroleum based candles. You’re safe with this one, trust us!

This time of year can take its toll on your skin. Icy blasts outside, high central heating inside? If this sounds familiar, look no further for a skin-saving solution: Balancing Body Soufflé. Made from shea and coconut butters with camellia oil and fragranced with lots of amazing essential oils, this butter is also great as an after-sun treatment. Show your skin some love, ladies!

Tranquil Isle Bath Salt. I mean, who doesn’t need this?! 2018 has already proved just as hectic and stressful as 2017 for some of us. May we suggest pouring a small handful of this lovely stuff into a hot bath and letting everything float away for a little while? The bath salts contain chamomile, a gentle sedative, and vetivert, known for reducing tension and aiding sleep. Queue up here, and three cheers for Mother Nature!

Making and promoting great products which have a super low negative ecological impact on the planet is always our goal. We love telling you about fellow pioneers of happy, friendly products in the fashion and beauty industry, and hope you’re feeling the benefits of supporting small, local businesses!

Travel

Travel
Peak holiday season is almost upon us. Here at Madia & Matilda we want to share our go-to holiday outfits as well as some nifty tips.

Plain and simple
Opt for minimal pattern to achieve effortless style. We live the M+M Tess - dress for this reason. Not only is it comfortable enough for that long haul flight, its fun tie-back design ensures just the right amount of flair to be suitable for all occasions.

Creative combos

Mix and match items for maximum versatility. Our top picks from Madia & Matilda are the Phoebe - contrast panel skirt and the Lisa May - tank top. Block colours work best for this but patterns could be introduced with accessories.

Pre-plan outfits
we cannot stress how important it is to make sure you have already planned out your outfits to wear on holiday, we have previously often thrown a load of summer clothes into my suit case and arrived on holiday with no assembled outfits.

Take minimal accessories
You won’t want to turn up on holiday with 100’s of accessories, just try to take accessories that will co ordinate well with your outfits, sunglasses a must!

Take clothes that are durable for travel

It is a pain when you’re travelling and your clothes get damaged, so too avoid this make sure to not take clothes that are already damaged and take clothes that will be right for what you plan to do whilst travelling.

Try to avoid taking a huge amount of beauty products
If you’re planning to wear makeup during your travels, try not to avoid taking most of your beautystash, try taking a makeup palette that includes eye shadow, lipstick and blush instead of taking those individual products.

Cardiff Style Steal

It is a well-known fact that Welsh girls are renowned for their unique style and beauty and with our upcoming showcase in the lovely city of Cardiff, we thought it fun to do a feature on some of our Welsh Madia & Matilda babes!

Instagram: @emilynin_

Our wonderful friend Emily is today's feature. Born and raised in Chepstow, she lived a comfortable 40 minutes from the capital. We asked Emily to pick out her favourite Madia & Matilda outfits and where in Wales she would where them. Why not check it out below for some inspiration?

Anya Long Sleeved Jersey

"The Anya Long Sleeved Jersey Top is completely up my street. Its simplistic style and neutral colouring are exactly what I’ve been after! I would complement this top with a pair of mid-wash, high-waisted denim jeans. I would then finish the outfit with some chunky black heels for cocktail nights with the girls in Cardiff! Alternatively, I would slip on some ballet pumps for a smart, yet casual lunch in Cardiff Bay. This top can easily be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion…one of the many reasons why I love it!"

Look stunning in Madia & Matilda for a lunch at Cardiff Bay like Emily.
"The pastel-toned Jen Crepe T-Shirt would be ideal for me to wear to Ogmore Beach in the summer, accompanied by my favourite Ray-Bans, a floppy sunhat and a pair of denim shorts. The mild yellow colouring would match my skintone perfectly and I absolutely love the flattering fit of this top too!"

"The Phoebe Contrast Panel Skirt is the perfect peachy-pink colour for spring. I can definitely see myself wearing this on a warmer day for a walk around the countryside picking Daffodils, paired with a light-coloured blouse/cropped top and some flats. The material of this skirt looks really light and airy too, perfect for keeping me cool as the temperatures rise!"
